Employee Motivation

In organizations, the system of motivation and incentives is aimed at ensuring the achievement of the goals of this enterprise. For this, selection of qualified personnel is made, which is provided with certain incentives so that employees have a desire to work. Different theories of motivation usually complement each other, contradicting only minor points. Each of them is applicable to any enterprise, but it is better to find an integrated approach to achieving the goals set for the organization.
Staff Motivation Definition
The goal of any motivational theory is to explain human behavior in various circumstances; they also offer solutions that encourage action. The motivation process is quite complex. Therefore there are many different ways to describe the occurrence and realization of the needs of employees of the organization. This diversity reinforces the theory of personnel motivation, which reveals the following types:
- traditional (are based on the use of material incentives for employees);
- substantial (notes the individual internal motives (or needs) of the employee, directing and supporting his activity);
- procedural (describes and analyzes how a person's behavior receives a pulse, how it is directed, supported, and ended; from the position of procedural theories, the object itself is the process itself and the result of motivation when exposed to certain environmental factors, such as injustice).
Basic Theories of Staff Motivation
According to the founding father of modern management Frederick Taylor, the biggest problem for workers is the lack of initiative and aspiration, the excessively slow rate of labor for lower output. He developed a system of management, which consists of the following points:
- it is necessary to search for the most effective ways of doing the job and training employees;
- it is important to establish standards and requirements for the results of labor while creating the best working conditions;
- workers should understand the direct link between wages and their results; they should also be informed about what is needed and what is the result.
This system aims to increase employee motivation to work, which is possible if the income is clearly tied to production, and to select only those employees who are interested in a lot of money.
